    To further support the growth of Speed Climbing Australia, SCA is pleased to announce the inaugural Trans-Tasman Speed Series with our mates at Climbing New Zealand.


    The new 5 Part Speed Series is designed to give our up-and-coming Speed athletes a chance to improve and grow towards their dream on home soil, more often + an Australian Touring Team Opportunity each year to join in on the Kiwi Nationals.

    Entries for this series will open at the end of March after the appointment of a new Series Manager.

    EOI– Routesetters | National Youth Championships


    Sport Climbing Australia is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced routesetters to join the setting teams for the National Youth Championships.


    We will be forming both Boulder and Lead setting teams, and invite applications from setters holding a minimum State Level 2 accreditation.


    Travel and accommodation will be provided for selected setters.


    Key dates:

    • Setting: 11–13 

    • Event: 14–17

    All setters will be required from the 11th-17th out of states setters will arrive Sunday the 10th and leave Monday the 18th

    DEADLINE APPLICATION 31/3/2026

    If you are unsure whether your current experience or setting standard meets the Level 2 requirement, please contact carlie@sportclimbingaustralia.org.au for guidance prior to applying.


    When selecting the setting teams, Sport Climbing Australia will consider a range of factors including:

    • Equity and representation

    • Dedication to the routesetting pathway (including applications across multiple events)

    • Climbing ability and/or competitive climbing history


    This event is a key part of the national pathway for young climbers, and we encourage setters who are passionate about youth competition routesetting to apply.

    EOI Officials for the 2026 Youth National Championships 

    Sport Climbing Australia is seeking interest for a Jury President a Boulder Head Judge and a Lead Head judge 

    The event is held @ Climbing Jungle Ballina Thursday the 14th May-17th May out of states officials will travel Wednesday the 14th and Monday the 18th 

    Travel and accommodation covered by SCA. 

    Deadline for application is 31st of March

    Entries for the 2026 Youth Nationals are collected by SCA through State and Territory organisations. Please contact your local organisation in the first instance for further information. SCA does not accept individual entries.

    OTHER QUICK TRAVEL TIPS 

    You can reach Ballina by air, road, bus, or train, depending on your starting location and preferences.

    By Air

    OPTION 1 

    Fly to Ballina Byron Gateway Airport: The airport is located just 5 km from Ballina’s CBD. Daily flights operate from major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Newcastle with airlines such as Jetstar, Qantas, and Virgin Australia. Arrange airport transfers in advance for convenience.

    OPTION 2

    Fly to Coolangatta Airport, Qld and grab a hire car or catch the bus to Ballina. The drive will take about 50-60 minutes. 

    By Road

    Driving: Ballina is accessible via the Pacific and Bruxner Highways. If you're coming from the north or south, the Pacific Highway offers a scenic drive. From the west, you can take the Bruxner Highway. The drive from Sydney takes approximately 10 hours, covering about 740 km.

    By Bus

    Bus Services: Regular bus services operate to Ballina from various locations, including Sydney and Brisbane. Companies like Greyhound Australia and Premier Motor Service provide comfortable and affordable options. The bus journey from Sydney takes about 12-13 hours.

    By Train

    Train Services: You can take a train to Casino Railway Station, which is the nearest train station to Ballina. From Casino, you can catch a bus or taxi to Ballina. NSW TrainLink offers services that include transfers to Ballina as part of your ticket.

    Local Transport

    Once in Ballina, local bus services and taxis are available to help you explore the area easily. Consider hiring a car for more flexibility during your visit.
