Sport Climbing Australia is excited to announce the launch of a new National Youth Program (NYP). Targeting identified Youth A and B athletes, in alignment with the new SCA High Performance Strategy, the goal of this program is to identify, develop, support and progress Australia's most talented young Sport Climbers towards long term medal success at future Olympic Games. Recently appointed AIS Gen32 Coach, Irene Torrealba, will lead the program.

The NYP will deliver a year-round program of training camps bringing together Australia’s brightest Youth Sport Climbers. These camps will be aligned to international standard competition simulations led by world-class route setters. Through these camps, targeted athletes may be identified to participate in "Strike Missions”; short and focused competition exposures including European and European Youth Cups designed to fast-track athlete learning and performance progression. Additionally, athletes will receive regular Performance Support services and education through the camps and via digital platforms.

The NYP kicks of this week with Torrealba supporting a targeted group of athletes to travel and train in Japan for eight days at the invitation of the Japan Mountaineering & Sport Climbing Association. The athletes will work alongside members of the Japanese National Youth Team under the watchful eye of Yoshiko Nishitani.
